- Also, the clock prob may be your battery, most 2k's are due for one anytime
- now. Yours may have a well known phenomina, the shorted cell syndrome. I
- need to replace mine, and have a Shack battery already on site, but its
- larger than the original. It works, I've already replaced 2 of them with
- the shack battery. But I just found a pcb mount version thats much more
- suitable at the local electronics wholesale. Its still some bigger than the
- commie/varta original, but has the same 3 legged footprint on the board.
- The required battery is a 3 cell ni-cad, and any smallish 3 cell will work.
- This one with the correct footprint has an oval cross-section. They'll be
- about $9 US.
-
- Its located on the front edge of the pcb, roughly between the keyboard
- socket and the accelerator slot, and the whole pcb will need to be removed,
- and then the sheet metal pan on the pcb will need to come off too. Removal
- will in most cases require a 5mm spintite type driver or maybe an adaptor
- on your power screwdriver to drive a 5mm socket. This is to remove all
- those "nut-screws" that holds the sheet metal pan on all those db connectors.
- You'll have to bend the front edge out to get it clear of the mouse
- connectors. When putting it back together, replace ALL of that stuff or
- your tv reception might go in the toilet. And possibly the machine might
- not be so stable either.
-
- So, please take a good look at your battery right now! The leakage junk
- is closely related to common lye! If its got whitish powdery stuffs on it,
- or run down onto the pcb, change it monday at the latest. Clean the mess up
- with wet Q-Tips, wet with water. Wash as much of it away as you can. The
- board, contrary to popular opinion, will dry in due time. The better you
- wash it, the longer the traces on the board under it will last.
-
- Cheers
